Privacy Policy

This is a plain-language starter policy and not legal advice. It explains how openmog (“we”) handles your information when you use the Service.

The short version

• We collect only what we need to run your account and the Service. Nothing is sold to advertisers.
• Posts are public; “anonymous” hides your handle from other users, not from us.
• The posts you feed and the questions you ask are sent to our AI provider to generate answers.
• You can access or delete your data, and delete your account, at any time.
• Chats with someone’s mind are visible to that person; anonymous chats hide your handle from them, not from us.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign in with Google or email, we receive identifiers like your email address and basic profile details, plus the handle and profile you create.
• Content you provide. The posts and replies you feed, your votes, reports you submit, and any avatar you upload.
• Usage and device data. Log data such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and timestamps, used for security, debugging, and improving the Service.
• Cookies and local storage. See Cookies below.

How we use your information

• To operate the feed, voting, search, and the hive’s chat answers.
• To create and secure your account and prevent abuse, spam, and manipulation.
• To moderate content and enforce our Content Guidelines and Terms.
• To analyze and improve the Service, and to communicate with you about it.

Service providers we share data with

We don’t sell your personal information. We share it only with vendors that help us run openmog, under contracts that limit their use of it:

• Our infrastructure provider: authentication, database, and file storage (for example, your account and avatar).
• Our AI provider: generates the hive’s answers. This means the content you feed and the questions you ask are processed by this provider to power the AI features.
• Google: authenticates you if you choose Google sign-in.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or as part of a business transfer.

Public content and anonymity

openmog is a shared, public hive, so the posts and replies you share are visible to others and can be surfaced in answers. Posting anonymously hides your handle from other users, but the content is still public and remains linked to your account internally for safety and moderation. Deleting a post removes it from the feed and from the pool the hive answers with; copies may persist briefly in backups and moderation records.

Mind chats and training data

Every profile can have a mind: an AI that chats as that person, built from their public posts. Messages you send to someone’s mind are visible to that person: they can read the conversation and step in to reply themselves. Chatting anonymously hides your handle from them, not from us. Training data you add to your own mind is private: other people never see it, the hive never answers from it, and it is processed by our AI provider only to power your mind’s replies.

Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and your browser’s local storage for a small number of purposes:

• Essential: sign-in sessions and security (handled by our authentication provider). Disabling these breaks the ability to log in.
• Preferences: remembering UI choices, such as cached chat suggestions, stored locally in your browser.

We do not currently use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, with the trade-off that essential features may stop working.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterward only as required for legal, security, backup, or dispute-resolution purposes. Public posts remain until you or we remove them.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, delete, export, or restrict use of your personal information, and to object to certain processing. You can edit your profile, delete posts, and delete your account in the app, or email us to exercise any of these rights. We won’t discriminate against you for doing so.

Children

openmog isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we’ll remove it.

International transfers

We and our providers may process your information in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

Changes

We may update this policy as openmog evolves. If changes are material, we’ll take reasonable steps to notify you. The “last updated” date above always reflects the current version.
